The People's Organization For Progress (POP) held a Rally to commemorate the forty-third Anniversary of the 1967 Newark Rebellion on Monday, July 12, 2010, 5:30 PM at the Monument to those who died during the uprising, at the intersection of Springfield Avenue , 15th Avenue , and Irvine Turner Blvd. in Newark, New Jersey .

Speakers at the rally included community leaders, activists, and family members and friends of those who died during the civil unrest.  POP representatives and members spoke including the group's State Chairman Lawrence Hamm.

"We continue to hold these annual commemorations, as we have done for more than twenty years, because we must never forget what happened at that time.  You really can't understand what is going on in Newark and the nation today unless you have an understanding of happened during the rebellion,"  Hamm stated.

Alan 32ano,é Professor de História da rede de pública de ensino, músico toca em bares a noite principalmente aos finais de semana e capoeirista a 10 anos. E como ele mesmo diz educa e é educado por meio da capoeira.

No fim da tarde do dia 20/07 nos encontramos para prosear sobre suas vivências no Movimento Punk, na locadora do Silvio Shina - do Jd Eliana.

Alan começou a atuar no movimento aos 14 anos de idade influenciado pelo irmão mais velho que trouxe alguns zines de uma manfestação, segundo ele estes zines faziam pensar de forma diferente, e também o ajudou a compor músicas com letras inteligentes e nesta epóca já arranhava um violão, em 92 vai estudar no Senai e entra em contato com um povo que curtia um som gótico e punk, em 93 vai estudar na escola Clarina e já se definia anarquista lia livros do Bakunin e começou a ter contato com o Frander, Silvio Shina e o Loquinho pessoas que mais tarde atuou com ele no coletivo Altruista e nas bandas Atitude Consciente e Mtropolixo, Mais tarde teve contato com a banda Execradores em um Show no jd Castro Alves organizado pela o cénario Anarcopunk de lá.

Foi para Europa acompanhando a banda Execradores em uma turne, viajou e conheceu outras cenas punks por aqui no Brasil - Londrina e Bahia, foi bastante influenciado pelo movimento Anarquista contra o Racimo que aproximou em um certo momento a cena punk da região com o movimento hip hop este contato segundo o Alan foi muito interessante a cena do hip hop era muito forte neste periodo por volta do ano de 95, participou de manifestações fazendo panfletagem e enfrentou grandes problemas com Skinreads nesta época o sitema era bruto.

Sai da banda Metropolixo em 97, e inicia faculdade de História, neste momento se afasta um pouco do cenario punk, e começa a realizar atividade com a comunidade, realiza o filme Margens junto a seus alunos, e tem uma atuação forte com a capoeira.

Hoje Alan se considera um "Punk velho", que apesar de não ter tanto contato com a cena punk propriamente dita fez muitos amigos que construiu uma relação bem bacana, ouça um pequeno relato de suas atuações aqui, uma história muito engraçada sobre uma ação direta nas eleições de 98.
